Fall 2022

On November 2nd, WPHLS members engaged in a Conversation in Medicine with Dr. Wendy Bennett, Dr. Elise Lynch, and Ms. Maureen Luthardt (N.P.) on the topic of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare. The conversation featured the panelists' insights about the topic and their own stories in their professional journeys.

Spring 2022

In Spring 2022, WPHLS members engaged in a variety of events focused on professional development. We hosted two panels: a Hopkins Alumni Panel, as well as the Women in the Brain Sciences Panel (co-hosted with Nu-Rho-Psi). Through these panels, members were able to interact and network with individuals who have made strides in various careers in medicine. WPHLS also hosted a CiM focused on the study of rare diseases, in addition to our annual Spring Conference. We finished off the semester with a successful professional photoshoot for active members, along with our Spring Conference with the theme of “Finding Balance in Medicine.”

Fall 2021

During the Fall 2022 semester, WPHLS was excited to return to in-person programming for the first time since spring 2020. To that end, members attended two CiMs focused on music therapy and Rare Diseases and coffee chats with Dr Katie Tifft, Dr Emily Fisher, Dr Chris Kraft, and Pre-Professional Advisor Ellen Snydman, during all of which members were able to network and connect with faculty on a smaller scale than a typical class setting. WPHLS also hosted social events for members, an MCAT prep webinar in partnership with a testing company, and our annual fundraiser for National Homelessness and Hunger Awareness Week.

Spring 2021

In spring 2021, WPHLS expanded connections with members through volunteer, social, and program opportunities.  Two CiMs were held—one focusing on combating racism in medicine and the other on mental health awareness—in addition to our annual spring conference held in April, themed “A Day in the Life.”  WPHLS also partnered with the Life Design Lab to offer a panel with two female doctors and JHU undergrad alumni, who gave advice to members about being a woman in medicine and getting into medical school.  Similarly, WPHLS again held a member alumni panel to discuss personal statements and interviews, and hosted a coffee chat with Ms. Ellen Snydman (pre-professional office) and Dr. Emily Fisher (Biology faculty).  In addition, WPHLS hosted multiple social events to help members connect with each other despite the remote format, and reinstated the BLAST program by partnering with a local Baltimore middle school to present a science experiment to the students remotely.

Fall 2020

In the fall of 2020, WPHLS focused on delivering information to members to help guide them through being a pre-med student in the COVID-19 pandemic. With many clinical, research, and volunteer opportunities suspended, WPHLS curated lists of resources and opportunities that could be completed remotely, and many general body meetings were centered around utilizing these opportunities and remaining successful despite the setbacks brought on by the pandemic.  To that end, WPHLS hosted a panel of upperclassmen members to explain what they wished they had known as they started their pre-med journey at Hopkins, providing advice and helpful tips for newer members of WPHLS. Lastly, WPHLS hosted a Conversations in Medicine (CiM) event addressing the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccine development.
