BLAST
Aceing Autism
BLAST (Bringing Ladies and Science Together) is a student-run science program that seeks to empower Baltimore school students to pursue careers in STEM. We run experiments that are fun and engaging, as well as build on a profound love and appreciation for science. This past spring, we arranged experiments via a virtual platform that uses presentations and at home experiments to keep students engaged. One of the experiments that was done with these students was a chromatography experiment, in which they observed and learned about the science of colors.
Aceing Autism is a nonprofit organization with a mission for children with autism to grow, develop, and benefit from physical activity and social connections through tennis programing. Generally, WPHLS members will help run drills, play games, do fitness, and socialize with kids weekly in the Aceing Autism program at the Johns Hopkins tennis courts. While in-person sessions were suspended, some WPHLS members were able to continue doing one-on-one virtual sessions with kids enrolled in the program.
